Well, you don’t have to…but it certainly makes lowering and raising your TV a LOT easier! More than that even, it PROTECTS your TV. Modern TVs are getting thinner and more fragile by the day. We include handles on all our MantelMount models so that the pulling forces are applied directly to the MantelMount itself, instead of pulling on the thin frame of your TV. 

All the MantelMount ranges of motion have adjustable stops to prevent any part of the mount from hitting the wall or mantel. The bottom travel stop is adjusted with two screws and locknuts, so the TV and mount do not lower all the way into the mantel. The side-to-side swivel stops are also adjusted with two screws and locknuts so that the TV does not swivel into the mantel. All our models include Adjustable Stops, and this is an exclusive feature of MantelMount®.

We use enhanced auto-stabilization with our gas springs to ensure that if one spring is stronger than the other over time, it won’t bias the mount. The stronger gas piston will automatically take on more of the force from the TV's weight/motion, thus maintaining a level TV over time. All our models include Auto-Stabilization, and it is an exclusive feature of MantelMount®

Consumers who raise their TV from a swivelled position could easily cause a collision between their TV and wall. Not to fear with MantelMount however. Even from a swiveled position, MantelMount automatically straightens the TV when raised so that it never touches your wall. All our models include Auto-Straightening, and it is an exclusive feature of MantelMount®.

The handles on the MM540, MM700 and MM750 come with heat sensitive protection! At 110-degress they turn bright red, letting you know the temperature has become too hot for your TV and that you should bring it to the raised position and/or turn off your fireplace.

While the MM340 has pull-down handles for your convenience, they are not heat sensitive. 

NOTE: Please note that we don’t suggest your TV be in the lowered position when your fireplace is turned on.

This depends on what you're trying to accomplish with your install and which MantelMount you're considering!

If simply surface-mounting any of our manual pull down mounts to drywall using two standard on center studs 16" apart, accessories are entirely optional and, in most cases, not needed. If you have more specific mounting requirements or preferences, you may require some of our accessories with the MM340, MM540 or MM700.

This is a simple-to-install MantelMount add-on accessory which allows you to integrate seamlessly into a custom-built wall opening. Easily fitting between standard or custom stud configurations, The RB100 Recess Box provides a super flush TV-to-wall storage by allowing the MantelMount center arm to now fold into the wall when the TV is in the raised position. The result is concealed mounting hardware and a 1.8-inch flush-to-wall TV storage! (For Mount Models MM700, MM540 and MM340 ONLY).

Note: If recessing the MM340 or MM540 with the RB100 Recess Box, you will also need to purchase the SSB40 Adapter to have the necessary bolt pattern configuration. The MM700 integrates directly with the RB100 and does not need the SSB40 adapter. 

NOTE: The MM750 Pro Mount includes an attached recess box and does not require any accessories for recessed flush mounting.

Used in conjunction with the MM340 Standard Mount, the MM540 Enhanced Mount and the RB100 Recess Box, the SSB40 serves as a direct replacement for their included wall plate when it can't reach your existing stud placement. Customers with a single stud centered in the intended mounting area can attach the SSB40 to your MantelMounts lifting arm the same as the wall plate, but the adapter has mounting hole configurations specifically for these single stud installations, as well as installations to large posts or beams (common with outdoor patio installations). The SSB40 is also used in conjunction with the RB100 Recess Box when recessing the MM340 or MM540 Mounts.

The MantelMount SBXL Sound Bar Adapter XL accessory accommodates more sound bars than the bracket that comes standard with the MM540, MM700, MM750 and MM855(coming soon) in that its compatible with wider and taller sound bars. It also accommodates those who would like to mount their sound bar ABOVE the TV, whereas the sound bar attachment that comes with the MM540, MM700 and MM750 only accommodates sound bar placement beneath the TV. The MM340 Standard Mount does NOT include sound bar attachment, which makes this a perfect accessory choice for that mount as well.

·        The MantelMount SBXL consists of two universal sound bar brackets that fit nearly all flat panel TVs and sound bar models.

·        Two universal sound bar brackets compatible with most flat and curved screen TVs

·        It can accommodate sound bars that are larger than 29” wide and 5” tall. The MM540, MM700 and MM750 includes sound bar attachment, but only for sound bars less than 29” wide and 5” tall.

The MantelMount PE40 Extended Wall Plates are a direct replacement for installations in which the wall studs are more than 16 inches apart. Our MM340 Standard Mount and MM540 Enhanced Mounts have wall plates designed for standard 16 inch on-center studs. However, sometimes the studs in the wall are further apart. The PE40 Extended Wall Plates attach to the lifting arm the same way the standard wall plate does, but they can reach studs that are up to 32 inches apart. The wall covers included with the MM540 will still attach to these extended wall plates.

In an existing wall, sometimes a stud is in the way and needs to be cut to make room for the MantelMount RB100 Recess Box. The remaining studs in the wall might be too far apart for the Horizontal Braces (that come standard with each of our MantelMounts) to reach. Our MantelMount RBE10 Recess Box Extenders easily solve this problem because they reach up to 34 inches to align with the nearest studs in the wall for a very easy install. The covers that are included with the RB100 can still be used to cover the RBE10 Extenders and painted to match the wall.

Most common installations are on a vertical wall, but the AB40 Horizontal Adapter Bracket can serve as a horizontal adapter for the MM340, MM540 and MM700 mounts, providing a 90-degree bridge between their wall plate and the TV mount lifting arm. This allows the wall plate to lay flat on a horizontal surface such as a large shelf or inside a recessed alcove.

Another application for the AB40 Horizontal Adapter Bracket is as a pass-through support for the when mounting the MM340, MM540 and MM700 mounts to thin brick facades or simulated stone panels made from foam, neither of which are strong enough to support the weight of a MantelMount.

Yes, MantelMount can be installed with a stone or brick fireplace if the stone or brick is thick and secure, not just a flimsy façade, with the use of concrete anchors. Concrete anchors can be easily purchased at any hardware store. Simply use our lag bolts (for mounting into studs) as a guide when you visit the hardware store to get the correct anchors. IF you have a flimsy stone or brick facade, make sure to look at the AB40 Adapter and SSB40 Adapter to assure you have the right accessories for the job.

Our MM540 Enhanced Mount and MM700 and MM750 Pro Mounts have built in sound bar attachment capabilities for many sound bars on the market. Here are some criteria that need to be met for your sound bar:

1. The mounting holes need to be on the back of the sound bar. 
2. The hole spacing should be no wider than 28.5" if mounting to an MM540. 
3. The mounting holes on the sound bar should also be situated no higher than 2.5 inches from the bottom of the sound bar. 

The majority of the Vizio 31" sound bars and Samsung 31" sound bars work within these parameters. 

If the sound bar you want to use is 29" or wider and/or taller than 5", you can buy our SBXL Sound Bar Adapter XL!  This accessory is also a perfect choice for pairing any sound bar with the MM340 Standard Mount, as that is the only one of our mounts that does NOT include any form of sound bar attachment. And finally, YES, this accessory will work for Sonos Playbars as well!

You ABSOUTELY can surface mount the MM750 mount, and many of our customers do. While the attached recess box is a wonderful feature for anyone looking to recess the mount for a 1.8" flush to wall appearance, not everyone wants to cut into their wall to recess.

There are many reasons to want the MM750 other than the recess box. It has our most range of motion, the smoothest travel, has 4 premium gas pistons (our other mounts have 2) and of our mounts holds the heaviest TVs!

If surface mounting the MM750, definitely take a look at our SK50 Surface Install Kit (Currently sold out but back in stock in Decemner!), which was specifically designed for surface mounting the MM750 and provides a more finished, designer appearance.

Yes! If your MantelMount is installed correctly it will not only stay in the down position, but you are able to stop it anywhere along the 24-30 inches of vertical travel path and swivel!

If by chance your MantelMount is not staying in the down position, there is an easy fix. When your TV is not staying in the down position and it is at least 20 lbs for the MM340 and MM540 and 30 lbs for the MM700 and MM750, then please adjust the long bolt inside the center arm to accommodate the weight of your TV. 

For the MM340 this is step 27 in the install manual. 
For The MM540 this is step 31 in the install manual. 
For The MM700 this is step 35 in the install manual. 
For the MM750 this is step 16 in the install manual. 

When you are adjusting the tension, you want the bolt to be traveling up towards your ceiling (the very top of the bolt is for TVs that are 20-30lbs and the bottom of the bolt is for 90-125 lb TVs). Once you adjust the long bolt, your TV will now stay in any position!
